TOP 5 DESIGN TRENDS SPOTTED AT THIS YEAR'S HIGH POINT MARKET

This year I had the chance to return to High Point Market to see the latest and greatest designs in home furnishings. Beautiful designs took over the market showcasing unique colors, textures, and shapes. Here are the top 5 design trends I spotted at this year's High Point Market:

1. MOD REVIVAL

If you remember the movie Austin Powers, you know what the latest design trend is. Think MOD! Velvets, chenille, shaggy fabrics and fringe abound. Strong, geometric round forms predominate reminiscent of some of the Postmodern movements of the 70s! And don’t forget the glam! 2. PEACH & PINK TONES

Peach was “en vogue.” Spotted in showrooms everywhere, light pink and peach tones evoke peace. PINK is relaxing, comforting, soothing. It promotes feelings of caring, tenderness and contentment. This trend prevails as we continue to crave peace and mindfulness from the information overload that technology has brought into our lives. From left to right: Alder & Tweed, Nathan Anthony.

3. FLORALS, TEXTURES & PRINTS

More is more! To juxtapose the cold interface of technology and screens, the home furnishings industry is responding by introducing more texture, more patterns, more prints, and more florals. Humans need to reconnect to nature. Tactile prints; patterns and texture provide a warmth that we crave. Busy wall coverings predominated along with unique textures and materials that fed our eyes with visual interest.

4. VELVETS

It seemed that every showroom I entered had velvet chairs upholstered. The predominant colors were emerald green, royal blue, and peach/pink tones.

5. CURVES & CIRCLES

Rounded forms and organic lines softened everything from upholstery to case goods, accessories and even lighting. Rounded backs in sofas and armchairs were the norm, while case goods featured rounded edges curved handles, and hardware. From left to right: More Goods, V Rugs and Home, Flor Décor.
